As a follow-on design to an HVAC and energy study of the McNamara Headquarters Complex, Summer Consultants designed upgrades to the HVAC systems serving the 1.12 million SF office building.

Three 500-ton chillers were replaced with 700-ton chillers and and existing 300-ton chiller was modified to improve performance. New variable frequency drives were installed on all air handling units. The existing primary/secondary plant configuration was modified to a variable primary configuration, reducing pump energy usage. All existing pneumatic controls were replaced with direct digital controls and integrated with the existing control system.

The improvements were one of severalĀ  energy conservation measures recommended to achieve the goal of a 30% reduction in energy consumption.
